Bamboo is a wonderful building material to use for your hardwood floors. Not only is bamboo a beautiful and extremely durable, but it regenerates in only a few years compared to the decades required to grow a new tree. Due to its fast growth rate it is readily available which also helps make it an affordable option.

Installing a bamboo floor is not much different than installing more traditional hardwoods. However, you do have a few different flooring options. Each option may have special requirements for installation. For example, if you choose to install a traditional plank style hardwood floor, you will have to apply an adhesive to each plank to adhere it to the sub-floor. Or if you choose to have a floating floor, it will require a layer of padding between the sub-floor and the bamboo planks.

When laying down a hardwood floor, always make sure that the sub-floor is completely dry to prevent mold growth and to ensure that your bamboo does not rot. Also make sure that the sub-floor is clean and level. An uneven floor will cause the bamboo planks to have an uneven, or bowed, appearance and is likely to leave you with squeaky boards in the future.

Although the process of installing a bamboo hardwood floor is a relatively simple process if you are patient and can pay attention to detail, many of us do not trust our handy-man abilities. Fortunately for us there are plenty of businesses out there that provide professional installation. This is definitely the way to go if you are fortunate enough to purchase your bamboo from a place that offers to installation for little or no additional charge.

Regardless of whether you choose to travel the do-it-yourself path or use the services of a professional, you are sure to enjoy the beauty and durability of your bamboo floors for years to come.
